hey. i am trying to figure out when the tin master cylinder caps were replaced by the plastic ones. my car (late 63 850) had one of each when i got it and now i am not sure which one is correct for that period. does someone have a definitive answer? thanks |

I believe the tin caps were used up until 1962. So that means I've just saved you $452! The master cylinder was also changed at the same time, the tin cap types have the hexagonal nut shape in the section where the outlet hoses screw in, the plastic ones are round. |

I would recommend you buy yourself a pair of new plastic caps. The cost of selling the metal one on ebay should more than cover it! |

My 64 850 (5 years ago) had plastic caps.... ![]() But after 40 years, who knows. At least the plastic ones don't rust into oblivion. |

Metal ones for early cars are now dodo dung, the plastic ones were an improvement when they came out as they don't rust, or jam on the threads. And, you can still buy them. ![]() |
