I only just found out that fiberglass minis were made in South America for a few years in the '70s.
Does anyone know much about them?
Are there any in Oz?
Were they any good?
I'm just curious!

I had a Chilean mate who was really into them. He said they'd developed a bad reputation because it was common for backyard operators to do cut-and-shuts on damaged ones. Buy two smashed ones and 'glass the front off one onto the back of the other, that sort of thing. He liked them, but said they were a bit heavy.

There's a bloke (dolfy) on the minimania forum was selling a couple there a year or so ago. I think they were called Cord, made in Venezuela.

The mini cord was as people have said but there was also a UK manufacturer , Domino who did a standard mini , a semi convertible (Pimlico) , a mid engined A series version inspired by the metro 6R4 and also a mini sprint type (the mid engined body with a conventional setup) though the basic mini and the Pimlico were the most common . There is a Pimlico in WA and possibly others but they are rare here .

Gee, I hate deseamed roofs - they make it look like a pudding bowl or something. It would be nice to be able to forget about rust in the shell. I've seen some of those Pimlicos in the UK mini mags - they look way to much like Barbie's car...

I think (little hazy here though) that the Minus went on to become the base model domino mini and the other versionswere modified from it .

The original fibreglass Mini was produced in Chile in the late 1960's and looked pretty much like this although they did not have an S version

Image

The Mini Cord was produced in Venezuela in the early 1990s and had no connection with the Chilean product.

Yes, that was my understanding too.
