thanks mooman, if someone can confirm which side they go to that would be great. I dont have a mini wiring manual

I did once, but not any more.

Edit: I've got the manual I downloaded recently, and yes the red/white wire goes to the solenoid but I dont know which terminal to connect it to

Ok the solid brown wires go to the +ve side of the solenoid.

There should be a brown wire with a purple/blue trace and that goes to the male connector on the top left that ponts towards the grille.

The white wire with red trace goes to the male connector in the middle that is lower than the others pointing towards the grille.

And the only solid white wires go to my coil so :?:

EDIT: Where does that red wire with the gator clip go to?

ok, I'm feeling ripped off again. I gave my car to someone to rebuild the engine and brakes and it came back with beautiful brakes, engines sounds good, BUT a heap of the wiring is not connected, even though it was connected when it went away. I have NO idea where they should connect to, and Im determined to have a go (hopefully with your help) to sort it out. Im guessing you guys will know exactly where these wires go, so if you have the time to guide me through this, hopefully I can get her going I've built a page with pics of the problem wiring, if you can help out that would be MUCH appreciated http://graphics.gateway.net.au/Mini/wiring.html

That big black wire goes to the solenoid where there is a blank screw. Undo it put the black thick wire (should look like a washer underneath) underneath and do the screw back up. I think the two green wires are from the water bottle mechanism for your window washers, but I do not see the bottle in the picture? Was there one there before?

beauty, YES the big black wire is sorted. Yes, the washer bottle that makes sense. Its no longer there, but yes that would have been it, thanks Im gonna go connect the black wire..

The right angled one attaches to one of the solenoid plugs, but am unsure which one. If you look in a mini book at a wiring diagram it will show you which one. The plain white one I think also goes to the solenoid. Sounds like the dude who did your engine work made it hard for himself by undoing all the wires, all he had to do was disattach the solenoid from the motor , or label them!

This is as it is on NAV which is a 75 van so not 100% sure this applies to your car Jill. My washer bottle has green wires leading to it And the only solid white wires go to my coil so E-mail me at [email protected] if u want some pics i can take from NAV to show you where if you like. OOH OOH OOH i just figured out the white wires. That yellow wire going to the coil from the solenoid should be your white ones. the single one goes to the solenoid and the other two to the coil +ve and -ve just dont ask me which side is which cause mine is butchered

K here goes. green dot to green dot single white wire to purple dot brown wire with blue or purple trace to yellow dot the two spare whit ones go to the white and orange dots. be careful though because the coil will get hot and not work if hooked up the wrong way.i'm thinking the wire with the red blobs on it is the +ve for the coil but if it does get hot just switch the wires and you're set. EDIT: fixed typo

WhoDat sent me a pic and it looks like 3 brown wires going to the solenoid. The 2 with round hole ends go to - light blue dot? and the other brown one with small plug end goes to - pink dot? I think the yellow wire was added after rebuild, possibly just to get it going? SHould I remove that and put it anywhere

Ok the thick black wire (light blue dot) is your main ignition wire - it carries power from the battery to the whole system and in turn charges the battery frrom the alternator. I'd be really uneasy about the way its routed through your engine bay (over the top of the engine, next to the clutch slave cylinder and behind the engine (probably next to your exhaust system) its an electrical fire waiting to happen. Make sure it is in a very good condition, not exposed or cut anywhere and it should go under the engine on the subframe - which is the thick metal frame under the engine. It curves at a 90* angle creating a nice path for the wire. The aligator clip that powers your pump is very dodgy too as it will fall off - and if it falls off while youre in the middle of fast traffic or a railway crossing etc it will be really unpleasant. The pump can be powered from the fuse box (connect it on the same side of the fuse box as a few thick brown wires (this is the unfused side) but using a different group of spades (ie you dont want it on the spades next to the brown wires which would be an "always on" connection, but on the spades next to the heap of white wires which is the "on on ignition" connection (this ensures your pump only works when the ignition is on)) and put an inline fuse on the wire. Or you can just use the common fuse and chuck it on the exact opposite (fused) side of the fuse box. Please get yourself a manual and a test bulb (they'll explain how to make one in the manual) the few bucks you'll spend on a manual you'll more than recoup by not f-ing anything up too often.

Heh I must have been hallucinating again in the 30 odd degree heat All your brown wires with the ring end on them goes to the +ve side of the Solenoid (blue dot ). The red cable to your fuel pump put on the fuse box with a spade connector so that it turns on and off with the car as Mike said and label it so you can remember what it is. I'm pretty sure the brown wire with no trace and the clear cover goes to the yellow dot but there should be a blue trace (i took NAV into the sun to find out) That one goes to the alternator s terminal. Get the yellow cable and take it off the car completely as you should have 3 white wires 2 female and 1 male (the one you have in the palm of your hand under your thumb in the second photo on your web site link) the male spade connector goes to the distributor and the 2 females are for your coil gold and white dot. if it's the wrong way you will feel the coil get really hot very quick so just change it around and it'll be fine. The dark wire going from your coil to what i think is the dizzy gets replaced by the white ones as well. Get the big thick black cable away from anything that moves as it comes direct from the positive terminal on the battery unless you want to see your hard work go up in smoke You will probably have a spare male spade connector on the solenoid as i'm pretty sure thats where the two solid brown wires with the ring connectors went with a spade connector.
