hey all,
just got my mini back from the mechanic today and apparently there is a ball joint (i dont know what else to call it) on the bottom of the gearstick, and the bushes i think they said have gone. just wondering if anyone knows how much, where to get them etc

and does anyone know the name of it? i dont have any idea when it comes to things like this.

also another question, the mechanic suggested just buying a whole new gearstick as he doesnt know if they'll sell them seperately, so i was wondering if a gearstick from a rover will fit it?

thanks again,
robbie

What type of gearbox does yours have ? If it's a rod change then a Rover should fit but if it's a remote then it won't . Rod change gearstick can be removed by pushing the cup over the housing at the base down and twisting it where a remote change will need a couple of bolts removed to remove the gearstick (either that or have a look underneath , either a rod between the underside of the gear shift or a big aluminium housing ).

If it's a remote shift I think Mini King has the nylon bush for it, sits on the ball at the bottom.

they were, ive never needed to look elsewhere, he could identify anything that was wrong with it, however he's now looking to retire, thats why mine has been sitting idle for the past week or so. dunno what theyre going to do now.

thats what i was after, theres a ball or something like that on the end of the gearstick and he said the bushes need replacing. will give him a call on monday.

so ian, the rover gearstick wont fit then because its a remote? how common are they, like did any other models have the remote?
its for a 73 clubby if that helps any.

thanks for all your help

Rover Mini one is the same as other rodchange gearlevers from 1974 on, it won't fit a `73 remote box.
Remotes were commonly used on Deluxe, S and later Mini-K and Clubby from 1965-73, and were on the 997 and 998 Cooper before that.
