I'm starting to strip Sonic and I can't figure out how to remove the hood lining. The car is a 1962 Morris 850. Mine has a screw at the top of the B pillar on either side(I have removed these), dose the rear half come forwards or dose the front half go backwards :?: and then how do you get the hoops out :?:
Also what is the best way to strip the doors? (early model wind ups) dose the 1/4 glass come out first and then the main glass or what :?:

An 850 has a different hood lining to most other mini's (same with 997/8 coopers I think) , they are a two part light steel frame that comes out intact as two parts . Basically remove the 2 screws and then gently pull the rear half (I think it's rear , the one on the bottom where they overlap anyway) down and forward at the front and it'll "pop" out . It's a snug fit and holds itself in by tension mostly . Once that halfs out pull the other out the same . Once it's out you'll see the hoodlining is stapled to the frame , remove the staples and peel the edges off where they are glued and get the neew hoodlining made up using the old one as a pattern .

cool I'll give that a go Sports 850.
Couple of other issues, the + battery lead. Were is it ment to run because mine goes from the battery up the C pillar, along/inside the drivers side roof Chanel and down the A pillar, then through the dash/firewall and in to the engine bay. Is this correct? and comments please...
And just checking the standard fuel tank holds how many liters? I really do need an exact figure please.

Still having difficulties with the 850 hood lining. I've pulled the front section backwards and uncliped it from the rear 1/2 but how exactly do I get them out from their?
Do I just pull the middles straight down against the curve of the hoops or what, I just don't want to wreck them :?

And a progress report, after 4 1/2 hours I've striped the boot, interior (except the dash), removed all the glass from the body. All that's left is the dash, doors, subframes, engine and wiring loom :D

Pretty much , they are likely to have "grown" into place a little over the last 40 years or so and stuck to the paintwork . Just ease them out gently and you'll be fine .

If you pull the 2 corners slightly towards the middle and wiggle it, each 1/2 should slide out.

Just a question that relates to the hood-lining

Do you need to take the windscreen, the back window, and any windows out first before you install a new hood lining?

Thanks

It depends on what type of hoodlining you have , 850's up to late 1963/early 1964 (but vague as all BMC stuff was) had a 2 piece framed hoodlinging that sat up in the roof area whereas later ones had a one piece hoodlining that extended to go under the top of the front and rear windscreens anbd under the rubbers for the doors and side windows . Is there painted metal visible between the top of your windscreen and the hoodlining or does the materialgo all the way down under the windscreen rubber . Your's could have either given it's age (1964) and the custom work on it .
