Post subject:  Rear stub axles for hydro

Hi all
After some rear stub axles for hydro trailing arms.
The helper spring pins on mine are badly worn. :(
Would like to get 2x r/h, then all axles are r/h thread.
Anyone know where I might be able to source them from?
Thanks

A much easier solution is remove the arm, then build the worn pin back up with weld.
TIG, MIG or oxy will do. 8)

I haven't tried it, but could the old pin also be cut off, a hole drilled in it's place and a new pin pressed in??

This could be easy at home if you don't have a welder..a drill press would be needed however..

If you don't want to weld it, use the old wet arm to dry suspension conversion trick- cut the `pin' off, drill and tap a 3/8 UNF hole in the back of the stubshaft (it and the `pin' are 1 piece) and screw a Grade 5 or 8 bolt in.

thanks for the replies.
But I was also considering putting a r/h one in the left trailing arm, so all axles are then r/h thread.
Ive done a disk brake conversion (front) & both front shafts were the same p/no & thread.

The reason the LH rear nut on a Mini or Moke is LH threaded is so that any rotation of the bearing will tend to tighten it.
The fronts are a totally different setup- the nut there goes round with the drive flange.

Have you buggered the LH thread up or something... :?

Thanks for your info Drmini
I took out the l/h stub axle to repair (weld?) the helper spring pin.
In pressing it out, I cant recall if ant damage caused, but I know the circlip retaining the stub shaft has spikey bits (cactus).
I will talk to Karcraft tomorrow & see if they have any or Lee Bros
Didnt realise the reason for diff on rear l/h axle. Thanks

I think you will find the proper stub axles are NLA now.
They haven't made a new Mini anywhere for 8 years...
If the corner of the LH thread is damaged, just grind a chamfer on it.
