Anyone know the weight of a bare mini shell with all hanging panels?

Yes I would also guess aroung the 250kg mark.
I have lifted one onto a ute by myself without any problems (but it had no swinging panels.)

so what about the engine, gearbox,etc weight considering the whole car should be around the 600-700kg mark

Engine and gearbox ~160kg

Then add....
subframes
suspension
wheels, tyres
glass
doors, boot, bonnet
interior
etc.

It all adds up.

unless you did the front end 1st and and then slide the rear up

You are not lifting 250kg, you are only lifting less than half depending on how it is sitting, probably only lifting about 75kg.
Actually they are fairly easy to stand on their end when empty.

that's how I've done it by myself a few times.... not a big deal

I had the front of my van with stands under the leading edge of the front floor, and lifted the rear of it - *that* was too heavy for me, I could get it up to level, but couldn't get one foot off the ground to kick the stand I had under it... :roll:

Me and one of my mates have shifter my roundie shell three times . we can lift it and carry it onto a car trailer just !

I had to get your old van off the trailer by myself, and then lift it onto the trolley solo as well. :shock:

It can be done, but I think I have bigger balls now from the effort! :D

When released the 850 shell was 310 pounds bare.

I have measured the weight of a 998 engine. I'll post the link in an update.
[Edit: post lost in the great crash of 08 but the engine/box/starter/carb weight was 125 kg give or take a couple]
