Yeah there were a couple who couldn't make it for personal reasons, so we only had 3 Minis on the track (oh, plus a BINI..).
Weather was bloody freezing, and the wind was blowing hard. I got about 96mph before I chickened out at the end of the straight.
<edit> Grant (red850) got around 110mph passing a BMW on the straight- that thing flies!
So many street cars were there they divided us into 2 lots, but we all had a bit of fun..

Midweek meets are better, IMO. 8)

yeh the BINI was suprisingly fast , doing a 1:16 aparently there is already $30 000 spent on it, all for 4 seconds over the original :P

Yeah the later runs were better. We gave it away about 2pm or so- I had a headache coming, and James had a noise in the motor.. so he parked it. But it got him home..

I'll be happy if I still stay ahead of James Be's 998 turbo.. he's just put a Russell Eng turbo grind cam in it... :?

What's this I hear about a 998 turbo? Something I've been interested in - whether it is successful on a SBU, guess it depends how much effort you put into it. Tell us more!

By the way did you happen to run into a Red 850 and Blue Clubbie w/ bonnet stripes whilst you were there? My mate tells me he made the trek up there to have a look. Unfortunately I couldn't due to bloody homework :(
He had nice things to say about how fast your car went :)

Cheers,
Anto.

PS When is the next event of interest? I'd love to see some hot bricks running round the track.

Yep there were a few people there that came up for a look- the stock looking red 850, a Blue Clubbie with bonnet stripes, a BRG Rover Cooper, probably some I missed, too, lol.

James's 998 turbo motor (he did it himself) is a blueprinted 998 block bored .020", nitrided crank, ported 1098 head, Metro turbo carb and inlet manifold. Cam put in it just now is a Russell Engineering turbo grind.
Turbocharger is off a Daihatsu Charade 1litre turbo, not sure exactly what it is. James made the exhaust manifold.
Interesting thing is, it all mounts above the clutch housing- no body hacking like on a Metro turbo conversion.
He's had it up to 14psi boost so far. Man it's a mean 998...

Yea, its an IHI RHB-4

Spools real quick, but still sorting it all out with the new cam...
Hoping to get my new bearings tomorrow and have the beast running again by Wednesday.. got to drive to work Thursday ! (been off for 3ish weeks!)

Thanks for the Kind words Kev...But the record is 16Psi, the fuel pump runs out of steam up there !! - I keep it at 14Psi for the street and 8Psi for the track......

I gotta say though, Grants RED-850 is f**kin quick..... if he had the gearing, he'd walk all over you Kev! that thing just lifted its skirts and boogied !!

Sorry I'm not around here much, someone over in Hot4's told me they say some pics of me and the car !

Cheers
J

Hey James did anyone get times for you or Grant? Ben says I did a 1.20 (I'll blame the headwind..)

Is it suck-through or blow-through? I don't know much about turbos, to be honest I haven't had much time for them, but the idea of a turbo 998... I may even have access to a decent 998 cooper motor (minus head), which is what gets me thinking. It has flat top pistons which though otherwise a benefit would possibly raise CR too high.

It's a blow thru job...
You want strong deep dish pistons- flat tops are NFG in a turbo, C/R is way too high.
