So even though my current 1098 has dished pistons, the turbo would help destroy the bottom end sooner rather than later. Especially as my motor has not been rebuilt since the great idler gear bearing explosion of 2003..... :)

1098 dished would be OK, they're as good as the 998 ones James runs- just don't fit flat tops if you're gonna turbo it.

You would need to relieve the combustion chambers to get the C/R down to around 8:1.

That's easy - I believe the CR of my car at the moment is only something like 8.5:1 or thereabouts anyway. The only tricky part is making the exhaust manifold and piping, and where to fit the turbo - I've seen them put above the clutch housing (where the brake booster would otherwise be) or like the Metro turbo. Since I removed my booster I have had an empty gap on that side of the engine bay, hmmm, a turbo would fill that gap very nicely.
Any tricks to the bottom end components, crank, bearings, etc? Or could you run a low boost and get away with it? Don't mind me, I'm just thinking out loud here.

Anto.

kazjim (James) has some pics on his site. Ping him and ask- he's done it all already.

He runs stock bearings, his crank is balanced and nitrided/tuftrided, though.

Motor wants to be rebuilt I reckon, before you whack a turbo on... 8)

Man, Am i getting famous or what ?
My ears were burning, so i thought I'd pop in and answer a couple of quick Q's....

I Think the secret is keeping compression down to a sensible level.... I'm running about 8:1 and it can handle about 14Psi (had it to 16Psi, but started to run out of fuel pressure !!) WITHOUT AN INTERCOOLER !!!

Possibly getting an Intercooler made up as we speak so I can start getting serious soon i think.....

Cheers
J

According to Ben (ausminis4u) who was ze man with ze watch at Wakefield, Grant's 1400 turbo and my 1310 both did a 1.20, James's 998 turbo did a 1.22, but he couldn't time all laps (only had 1 stopwatch) 8)

Hey, rebuild so far is about $55.. Karcraft have some good prices !!
Gaskets arrive tomorrow so i should have it dropped back in by Sunday morning....

I Changed from the Alloy BOV for 2 reasons, at 14Psi the Alloy one just wasnt flowing enough, it was still measuring boost as i changed gears.... not a good situation and one that a BOV is supposed to fix !!! - The 1000Hp Twin Turbo Ute "The Judge" ran a pair of Bosch Plastics, So i guessed that it would have More than enough flow for me !!

The other reason is that i think the plastic ones just sound cooler ! more a subdued "whoosh" than an ear splitting "Pscht!!"

One more reason is cost.... why do Ricers fit those Huge-ass alloy ones for $500++ when a $40 Plastic one will outflow any of them !! Saab, Nissan and Mercedes cant all be wrong !

Cheers
J
