I got my mini van painted about eight months ago and have been slowly putting it together since.
As with a newly painted car, you are bound to scratch it in one way or another at some time.
The first was from my eldest boy who thought helping dad dust the van with a pair of vise grips would be good. Result, inch long scratch down to the undercoat.
Second was me shutting the a door without the plastic guide blocks fitted resulting in paint of, down to the undercoat, on both the window frames and the door wells.
Thirdly was me dropping a rear side window onto the side of the rear quarter from a height of about half an inch while sizing up to fit.
This left a patch of undercoat showing.
I couldn't believe that paint could come off so easy so in my pissed off state I turned to my hilux behind me and hit it in the same way as hard as I could until it only left a mark, no scratch down to the undercoat, only a mark.
By this stage I'm thinking this paint job is really crap so I tried ringing the painter only to find their shut for Easter and after calming down never got around to calling again.
But as for today.
I locked my dog in the shed because it can get out where I've pulled my garage down only to find that when I got home that she has jumped all over it absolutely destroying the paint work on the front quarters and roof.
I mean there are no marks hardly at all, it's scratches down to the undercoat everywhere!!
Now the question I have to all of you that know a bit about auto painting is what the hell is wrong with my paint job!?!
What I am thinking is that the painter only sprayed over the top of the existing 7 yr old undercoat and the topcoat never took to it.
I need some ammo for when I ring him again so give me a few suggestions please people.
Damian
Sorry about the long rant. It's been on my mind for a long time.
