what a shame

we went through the museum when we were in WA last year, what a great mix of cars - no ADO16's was the major fault we found

If you're over that way and you haven't been yet make the most of this last chance

Hopefully they'll get some news coverage and the government/port authority might be shamed into offering them space elsewhere

Yep-will be there on Sunday.
Unfortunately this is the result of a stubborn State Government Minister making up her mind and not wanting to even consider changing her insane decision.....Personalities have clashed and this will be the end result.
And whats going to go there...more coffee shops/cafes and a ferry terminal

That really is a shame. :(

It's a pity that the government hasn't been able to accomodate the museum in one of the other (unused?) heritage listed sheds. After all, they weren't after charity, just a fair go. They did pay rent, and it was a commercial venture.

50,000 visitors a year and the government doesn't think it is worth supporting. I'm sure Fremantle needs more cafes.

It's not a complete disaster as Peter Briggs still has the York Motor Museum, but it will go back to only being able to view part of his collection, and the fact that York is around 2 hours from Perth.

It is obvious that the narrow-minded politician (is there any other sort) has no interest in motoring history.

Perhaps she needs a lesson.

Just a few of the cars in the museum include the 1905 Napier Samson World Land Speed Record holder, Alan Jones 1980 World Championship winning Williams F1 car (Australia's only had 2 world Champions in F1 after all), the Maybach Mk3, the MG K3 that won the Milli Miglia in about 1935(?ish), the Valiant ute from Walkabout Creek (used in the film Crockodile Dundee) and (I think) Rosco McGlashin's Aussie Invader LSR contender. There are about another 80 cars, all with significant social history attached.

This is yet another attack on our motoring heritage by the ill-informed.

Someone wear a black armband for me.

Cheers,
Watto.

Would someone take some nice pics of the day for me, to use in The Mini Experience.

Especially a pic with lots of cars (preferably with Minis in the foreground) and lots of people.

I have been to Perth twice in the past five years, and both times made a special trip down to visit the museum.

Spent a whole day there the first time, doing various photo shoots, including having a buzz around the docks area with Peter Briggs in his favorite MG (PB model I think). We had a ball, and it was evident that this man is passionate about the history of motor cars, and particularly their association with Australia, and their significant place in Australian social history.

All things I guess that the WA Government doesn;t give a toss about.

Cheers,
Watto.

I've just been in touch with the Media department for the WA Government and it seems that the closure of the Fremantle Motor Museum is so high on the priorities of the Government, that no media statement has been made, despite the campaign that has ensued.

I guess it is to be expected. I couldn't even find any media statements on their website made on the ferry terminal, or the new cafe precinct.

The usual apathy abounds.

Cheers,
Watto.

Watto-Yes I'll take pics for you and I'll speak to Peter as well about your fond memories of your visit.
I'm sure it's going to get a large turnout.

Thanks for that.

I look forward to seeing the pics, even I don't look forward to the place closing down.

Cheers,
Watto.

What a bugger!
I toured through there last year and was looking forward to go again the next time I was in WA.
I may have to take a trip to York.
