I use whatever is handy, around 0.5-0.8mm, for patching. PC cabinets are good, washing M/C panels are good...
Avoid galvanised and zincalume sheet, they are too bloody hard to weld.

Original Oz floors (my 1964 850) were 1.6mm thick, the UK front pans I bought were 1.0mm thick. But they didn't fit too bad with a bit of cutting and shutting in the corners.

i new there was a thread about somewhere

I thought the panels are 0.8mm, but I think the old holdens were 1.2mm

English floor pans were 18 guage .0495" -1.257m.m
Aust floor pans were 16 guage .0625" - 1.587 m.m
Both cars had body panels 21 guage .0349" -.0886 m.m and 22 guage .03125" -.794 m.m. depending on application on body.
If you want .8mm annealed steel for body panels try Enviromental Salvage yard at Sailsbury. They have sheets 2mtr x .5mtr for $8-00 ea. The annealed is easier to form.
