2 days ago when I started Barney for the short run home, the 5 month old Gemini starter sounded a bit funny.
Got home and turned the motor off, and I could hear something still whirring...??????? :?

I found the starter motor was still spinning- but not engaged with the ring gear. Pulled the red/white `start' wire off, but it's still going...
Anyway I had to disconnect the battery to stop it.

It seems the solenoid let the pinion retract when it started, but the switch contacts must be stuck together in there or something.
Anybody else had this problem?

BTW it's under warranty (2 yr) so it'll be going back.... 8)

I have had it happen a long time ago on a truck. The solenoid contacts get hot and melt together. I used to give it a tap with a hammer to stop it spinning.
The starter was a huge 24 volt Nikko starter from Japan.
The truck was an Isuzu. (can you see where I am heading with this... 8) )

Yeah I bet you next paragraph would read "verily verily, I would avoid Isuzu starter motors or other products like the plague".

Nope-I'm running the same starter motor.
More than happy with the way it kicks the 1380 :D
Hopefully it is a warranty issue.

Yep I'm sure it is. When it comes back I'll bolt it to the 1412 stroker... 8)
