Looking for opinions on what people prefer in teh way of scoring and timing speed events.

In an event where each driver gets say 3 or 4 runs, there's a few options:

Drop the slowest run
Drop the first run (practice)
Average the times that count
Total the times that count
Something I haven't thought of....

At the end of the day it probably doesn't matter as long as everyone knows the rules going in, but what y'all think?

I don't compete in any way but I'd drop the slowest and then total the rest.

The best time on any run is the only way to be fair.

If you were to have four runs and average them all (or even if you drop the slowest one) this is what could happen....
A) A real experienced driver will get all four runs to a close average he is using his experience to not make any errors. His first run may well be his fastest run but the other runs will be very close.
B) The young inexperienced driver will make errors because he is learning, his average will be well down as a result of his mistakes. His fastest run could well be the third run out of four because he will try too hard on the final go.
So the result is driver "A" will win.
If you just have the best run it could be driver "B" that wins.

Morris 1100 I'm a little confused. If you average the runs, A wins.....isn't that a good thing? Or are you saying that if B can pull one good one out he should win? (will only happen if just the best run is counted).
