my 998 has always had low oil pressure problems it suddenly got worse overnight.

when driving it used to get around 40psi(hot) and at an idle of 1100rpm it would get 21psi. i had to set the idle high or it was just droping way to low.

last week i bought an md276 cam for it. it sounds great nice and lumpy but ive lost about 10psi of oil pressure all round

now she drives at 30psi(hot) and i have to have her idleing at 1300rpm to get 10 - 15psi(hot)

the only changes made were double valve springs, cam , new head gasket, timing cover seal and timing cover gasket.

i even tryed replacing the oil pressure valve with a cv ball i get better cold oil pressure of about 65psi even at idle. apart from that it doeant affect the pressure when the engine is hot.

anybody have any idea or is the engine just warn out???

after you've had the crank crack tested (and machined if required), also send the block of to be cleaned (dont want old bearing bits in your new bearings) and machined as well if required, i also reccommend striping your gearbox to get all the other bits of the bearings out so that isnt pumped through the engine as well....anyways just my thoughts and reccommendations for engine longevity, happy ownership, happy driving

Also check your oil filter. There is a by-pass when the oil filter begins to become choked. This also will cause an oil pressure drop.

The cam you put in - was it new or second hand. You may find that the cam was worn and machined where the bearings fit and you have slotted it in on the larger diameter existing (and worn) cam bearings.
