Post subject:  rubbin's NOT racin'
finally got around to inspecting the Mini after the Wakefield run back in November. yeah i know :oops:

problem = right rear tyre was rubbing on the outside guard lip. Wakefield is mostly r/h turns so on 2 turns it was rubbing. i have adjustable brackets set to 0.5deg neg camber.

I have thought of a few possible causes
- being drivers side the huge 75kg lump that is me was weighing that side down too much.
- standard trumpets, but sits reasonably low. old cones may be squished too much.
- car is whacked. this is unlikely as Greig Malaure reckoned it was very straight when he set the suspension up. less than 0.25deg toe in one side and 0 deg the other.
- camber bracket came loose. unlikely as it is all tight as it should be.

anything obvious i am missing?

but i thought they were for hydro cars only. mine is dry. do people fit them to dry cars?

where exactly do they go?

at least no one has said i am heavy on that side :lol:

no you misread that Mick. I said negative in that i do NOT have competition bumpstops.

I DO have negative camber brackets set to -0.5deg.

the link to Minimania is just like everywhere else and states that the rear bumpstops are for hydrolastic. I do NOT have hydrolastic. I have dry suspension.

And on top of the swing arm is not an exact location. Are they at the axle end, the pivot end, somewhere in the middle? Sorry the engineer in me wants to understand the problem before i do a suck it and see approach to solutions. I am not one for easter egging to get something working.

Who has fitted competition bumpstops to the rear of their dry car? Any pics?

aah they were there after all. :oops: got a lotta things on my mind atm

Still, i would like to know who has found it necessary to fit the rear bumpstops. i hate fixing symptoms of problems and not the cause. Anybody had this kind of rubbing on one side only?

com on there are plenty competition cars out there with dry suspension. Anybody?

I run the hydro comp bumpstops on the rear of my dry mini, but I used the hydro arms :) Not done it because I had to, I had a set of bump stops and they bolted up. I shortened the bumpstops by about 3/4" too, due to my ride height, the body was in contact all the time.
Listening to your circumstances, suggest your rubber cones are shot. Replace them and then see if you need the bump stops.

Yeah...or a trumpet has partially collapsed/punched through its cup.

i think i have to drop the subframe to replace the battery box anyway. will have a good look at it then...

apart from the rubbing it handles like a demon the way it is.

Have you rechecked all the alignments after it's trip up there ? Wonder if the container got a bump in the right direction to put something out a smidgen , just enough to make it rub under the right conditions .

it was rubbing at Wakefield before it got into the container. there is a line all the way around the tyre. it has to be rolling to get that :wink:

I am going the replace cones route at this stage and will see what happens.
