I believe that a rubber gasket between the head and rocker cover has been unavailable now for years. I like the thought of this so I made one. It's been on now for a couple of weeks with no oil leaks.

I decided to do this because every time you check/adjust your tappets (service time), you need to replace the cork gasket. Not that it's expensive, but I like the thought of not having to replace it every time the rocker cover comes off.

I know of one other ausmini member that has had his rubber gasket for something like 10 or 12 years - I wonder how long mine will last

I re-use the cork gaskets. I don't have any problem with them.
But you must fit them in a certain way so that they will not break.
1) Clean the rocker cover surface with a solvent.
2) Glue the gasket to the rocker cover with contact adhesive. (following the directions so that the glue will work properly )
3) Apply non-hardening aviation sealant to the gasket face.
4) Fit cover to the head. (as many times as you wish)

When you re-fit the cover just apply some more non-hardening aviation sealant if needed.

I always reuse my cork gaskets...

I don't think I've ever used anything to seal them, I just do them up until it feels tight enough. I have a mate who once jumped up and down about the right torque 5 lb/ft!

The rubber I used was 5mm thick - came from a broken conveyor belt at work. Only trouble with it is the cotton all through the rubber, which is why I think it will leak, however, so far, so good.

Bit trickey to make, but be patient and you will win, should you decide to make one.

Some rubber items do not like oil. The is why most rubber things in car engines are not rubber at all but neoprene.
