just bought a 1977 clubman

Biggest job is the brakes. They don't work at all until right at the end of travel of the pedal even then they are v poor. Handbrake seems to work ok.
Any ideas on where to start solving the problem. Please help I want to drive it

Sean

Adjust the brakes, read the manual if you have one.
If the pedal doesn't then come up, try bleeding.

Check that the clevis pin has not fallen out, it connects the brake pedal to the master cylinder.
I had a Clubman that was missing the pin and mo matter what you did to the brakes (bleeding, adjustment) the brakes would only work on the very last bit of pedal travel.

Check each wheel cylinder to see if they aren't leaky.

If you pump it up, does the pedal come up?

Try bleeding them.

Could be the master cylinder.

start simple, do the easiest things first - check the fluid, adjust each wheel, bleed them, then start checking the wheel cylinders etc,.

Up under your drivers side dash.....follow the brake pedal up....it is what conects the pedal to the master cylinder....

There is a whole thread on replacing it!!! search on Clevis.....

Unless you are 4ft high or a contortionist, I'd pull the drivers seat out first...
