I removed the worm screw drive from my wipers today to solve a "lazy" passenger wiper. The final drive cog appeared to be worn so i aquired a 2nd hand one which was in A1 condition and fitted it all back together. Now the wipers are reluctant to swipe the screen at all, even when wet. What have I missed, did I not use enough grease ? When I lift the blades off the screen they swipe perfectly. Any ideas ? I was going to pull it all out again tomorrow and give it a bath in kero and re-grease it with alight weight grease. ???????? |

I didn't realise that mini wipers actually worked ![]() ![]() ![]() Besides that I've got nothing. Wouldn;'t it be easier to buy a new one for only a few bucks? |

What sort of wiper motor is it? I had similar trouble with an early 850 wiper motor after I replaced the brushes and re greased it but that was the brushes not seating properly... Did you fully take it apart? It may be a the armature misaligned and not wanting to turn... |

I only took the back plate off and removed the worm screw. Given it is a rotar motor I am not clear on how the aramture could be out. Again, when the wipers are not on the glass they work perfectly.????? |

I know it sux when you try to fix something & it ends up worse ![]() If you removed the motor, maybe the rack cable is misaligned and is now binding somewhere? The early motors were not really that powerful anyway and after all these years, the magnets in them have probably lost their gauss/magnetism or WTF its called. |

Great idea.... When I bought my race car the wipers were similalry stuck... thought the motor was stuffed ... but when disconnected and tested was fine... After cleaning up as you describe..... now works beautifully.... basically clean off any old grease you can - including in the "tube".... It's a messy process!! <edit> This is the wiper worm screw, tube and wheel boxes..... (not the motor) .. just to be clear ![]() |

I keep a rag in the car and when it rains, i open the window, and as i drive i systematically reach out and wipe the screen in front of me so i can see where i go. |

Why would you think its illegal to apply Rain X to your windscreen? Did a lepricorn tell you that? Got to Autobarn, they will have plenty of it, i bought some on Sunday. |

I find Rain-X isn't that great on a Mini anyway, the windscreen is too vertical. In newer cars with more screen rake, the rain blows off far more easily and at lower speeds, where in a Mini you've gotta be doing warp speed. I don't have any trouble buying it in Melbourne, btw.. |

When did you guys last get rain? Perhaps they have pulled it off the shelves cause it never rains down there? Thus, they dont sell much of it. I found it worked well on a Mini screen, yrs ago my motor failed and during the time it took to locate and replace mine, all i had was rain x. |
