I have a spare 998cc engine from a '78 clubman that I would like to tinker with.
Can anyone recomend a book or tuning manual to get me started as I have little experience with car engines. (apart from the many posts on this site :) )

Get a factory workshop manual.

But also look at getting yourself:
"How to modify your mini" by David Vizard
"Tuning BL's A Series" also by David Vizard

It's a famous book, and it's been read and analyzed to death. But it's probably the best reference out there.

David Vizard's Tuning The A-Series Engine.

Thanks guys
I've seen Vizards books for sale so I think I might grab a copy of tuning the A series.

I've had my copy for 12 years, and every time I pick it up I learn something new... even if it's the same page I've read 20 times
