Those that remember in November I got my Clubman a RWC and rego'd. I thought i would change my S shocks and the front and thought, oh well, do the Clubman as well. I removed one of them and compressed the shocky. It didn't even look like going back out. ![]() ![]() ![]() Can't wait to drive it and see how it drives tommorrow. |

That sounds about right to me , not many shocks do return by themselves , unless they have a spring assist on them . They are normally fairly easy to compress , then quite firm to pull back out . Thats how they work , by damping the return .............. ![]() |

tinymorris1969 wrote: shock should pull it self back up, doesnt need assistance they must of been really soft What makes a shock pull itself back up? Do they all do it? (this is a trick question ![]() Gas shocks will extend themselves quite quickly but normal plain oil filled unpressurised shocks will just sit still and stay in the spot you left them. Some shocks only give resistance on the return stroke and not the bump stroke but good shocks will work in both directions. |

I know about my S, I put them on ages ago, and you can't see them unless you remove the wheels, and improve the handling slightly |

I keep meaning to do the same to mine... but you know, getting around to it is something else altogether |

The simple way to test shocks, and the way its meant to be done for a RWC is to push the car down, and count the undulations until it stops "bouncing." Its meant to only cycle 1 1/2 times showing that the shock absorber is doing its job. |
