Well, haven’t put it on the road just yet, my little 72 clubbie has been a handful of wonderful (expensive) surprises, but I am not complaining because I love it! Anyway, I have finished swapping it over to electronic ignition. We have had the engine running with the old dizzy and idling ok. For an upgrade the electronic ignition went in. Since then, at idle at about every 4 seconds it spits out the unburnt chamber contents through the carby! At higher revs, this reduces somewhat but is still a problem. Some particulars about the engine: 998, D4R83 electronic ignition, extractors, single ½” SU. I am looking forward to anybody thoughts on the above issue / cause and fix. As always, anybody’s is appreciated. I look forward to having it on the road soon. |

Had that opinoin too from my cousin who is working on the car with me. Sounds like a definite posibility, however, when we had the Lucas dizzy on it, it did not do this. Looking at doing compression test tomorrow. |

Is the elctronic ignition in 4 cylinder mode ? I assume its a hall effect ignition - is the hall ring or the reader on square? Does it have a timing screw on it - maybe its mistimed |

it just sounds like a timing issue mate, have you put a light on it? |

Thanks for your comments. The dizzy is the typical D4R83 pulsar conversion. I had sent it up to Russell Engineering to have converted to suit the engine. Does any one have any diagrams of the electronic dizzy? i wouldn't mind having a look to check the 'hall effect'. haven't put the timing light on it yet. |

Turned the car on this morning and it idled clean for a few minutes, then gave it a bit and when the revs went up it started coffing and spluttering all over again. Hmmmm. leaning towards timing now..... |
