first, a question - are roundnose radiators the same as clubman ones? I've always assumed they were the same, the radiators don't appear to be any different, other than the very late ones where the top pipe is at the back of the rad since rebuilding my motor, I've had a bit of water spewing out of the overflow after I turn it off... not a big deal, but I thought I'd get a new radiator cap for it first off I went to Bursons, and the knob behind the counter looked under 'Morris' in the Tridon book, and none was listed - he said they don't stock anything else, and I left. On the way to the next parts shop (independent) I thought "ohh, I should have got him to look under 'Leyland'". So I got to the next shop, and the bloke there went straight for Leyland in the Tridon book, and got me a CP1390 cap. I took it home and put it on, and had it on a few days, but was still getting water spewing out. So last night I had a look at it and compared it with the old one - I took it back this morning and they swapped it over for a CPC brand cap (part no. 517/13), which is the same brand as the one on the car. I put it on at the shop, drove to work and didn't have any leaking water so here's a pictorial comparison tridon cap ![]() cpc cap - same part, but you can tell that my old one isn't real flash ![]() |

I've always been under the impression that the smog head radiators have a different (longer) cap? |

Most (all?) Australian Minis had the long-neck type caps, as in exhibit B. All of the currently available new radiators have short-neck type caps, as on the left in exhibit A. The radiator expansion tanks also take a short-neck cap. |

Yep every single manufacturers parts list is different. It can be such a PITA. And a lot of them base their information on British models rather than Australian which doesn't help either. I've always used CPC caps. 517/13 for long neck and 508/13 for short. And they have a website with picatures. |

If you have an expansion tank (I plan to add one to mine during the rebuild) shouldn't the cap on the radiator be a a plain flat cap - no spring seal? |

Yes the radiator takes a blanking cap (CPC 2001) but the tank itself takes a standard short neck cap. |
