found an add for this guys kit in a unique cars mag, interesting stuff if you doing a resto or want some smaller bits blinged!!!
im considering getting one, what do people think??

$238.70 just for 10L of chemicals

It's expensive stuff, and that doesn't include your time, a power supply, plastic tray, etc.
You would want to do a lot of parts out of that to make it worthwhile.

You can make one yourself.. we had to make one at school.. It was a very basic one.. wasn't terrific, it sorta plated things unevenly.. but I'm sure you could make something that worked resonably well.. theres probably plans on the net somewhere for one.

That's what this is.
You only get the chemicals for that price.
The rest comes from what you can knock up at home/work.

BTW my father in law made an electro bath using caustic soda for cleaning up rusty parts on the FC Holden he's been restoring. Actually passivates the steel - he swears by it.

You can acutally buy kits with the tank and all necessary things too.

10 Litre NiCo Plating Kit $353.10
25 Litre NiCo Plating Kit $498.30

Then if you want, you can buy the special cleaning kit at an added cost.

The thing is, I have no idea how far 10 or 25 Litres of that stuff would go and how many bits and pieces you could do with it.

There's a guy in Newcastle that's a lot cheaper. Advertises in bike mags. I put the link on here somewhere but can't find it now!

These guys are awesome to deal with too. I get all my paint gear from there.

Well, I'd be more concerned with the EPA raping my @rse than the price if you get caught......get the job done by a shop set up NOT to destroy our waterways. They can contain the chemicals involved in this process correctly.

I think the chems in some of these kits are just electrolytes (i.e. salt solution) and are only slightly acidic, the actual metal comes from donar anodes.

Don't think there is anything much worst than what you would find under your laundry sink or in your workshop.
