Putting the gear box back together - all nice and clean, plenty of fresh oil following the step by step instructions thinking beuuuutiful. Coming together good. Come to the bit that says "assemble the the first motion bearing on the shaft before drifting into the case - note presence of the synchro ring" So I put it all together and drift it into the case took a bit of effort got the big circlip in as well - Good I thinks - whats next. Turn the page "don't forget the roller bearing on the nose of the 3rd motion shaft before difting in and adding circlip " ![]() ![]() ![]() NOW I CANT GET THE BLOODY THING OUT All I am doing is bending brass drifts - filling my lovely clean box with brass fillings and tilting the 1st motion bearing so its wedging itself (can only get at it from the top) |

I use the mainshaft to drift it out straight. Make sure the 2 detent springs and plugs underneath are out though, or you will send the synchro hub balls into orbit. |

Well it worked - removed the detent plugs and springs (couldn't get the plungers but the rods were moving freely) 3 Hits with BFH (and a bit of wood) and the 1st motion bearing and shaft popped out ![]() Cleaned it up and got rid of the brass filings PUT THE ROLLER BEARING on the 3rd motion nose and put it all back together. (easier 2nd time around) Got the CPU and the laygear in - gave up trying to get the 3rd motion bearing retainer sorted and decided to call it a night. Why would the detent bolts have two copper washers under each head? Figure it would relieve the spring tension but is it standard practice? |

Just use 1 washer, more just reduces spring pressure. ![]() |
