Post subject:  Widening Wheels

Was wondering what the legalities are with widened steel rims? I have a set of 13" Steelies and was thinking about widening them. If it can be done does any one know somewhere in brisbane that will do it?
Cheers
Dan

Not sure if it is illegal, depends how wide you want to go.
There is a mob in country Victoria (Eastern Wheels in Corenet Bay) that widen wheels, make custom Alloy wheels even make up steel centres for steel rims, make alloy truck rims and repair all sorts of wheels.
A guy that works there builds the Mad Max replicas that was in Unique Cars magazine a while ago, they made the wheels for that out of steel, look very nice.

It's not about the width, cutting and joining of two different rims to make one wider one ( how it used to be done, I have a set of 6x10's like this ) is illegal. Getting a shop to fit your centers to a new rim with the width of your choice is not illegal, but widening your existing wheels as mentioned is.

<EDIT> A lot of people run them regardless.. It's not like you can tell unless you pull the tyre off
