if I have a small patch that needs painting I just grab me a mouthfull of paint a blow it on ala the aborigines.

It takes some practice but you end up with very minimal overspray if you squirt the paint out rather than blow it on.

There is a garden spray gun - usually copper bowel and brass pump- green handle - that pressurises as you pump - gives a very fine spray.
