ok carbies car finally going in with one little hitch so far. the needles. a requested for type N or M needles to go in due to advice from the one and only kev (drmini) but the problem is that the needles may no work with the car now, and they are waiting for them to arrive this morning. hoping that they will work with the motor otherwise i will have to put up with whatever goes in i guess.

now the questin is will i notice a difference in driving tiny after this?

You will notice a difference but whether it's a real difference remains to be tested . Before you get them fitted find somewhere safe and quiet and time how long it takes Tiny to get from 0 to 60 kph or whatever the speedlimit is (I am not suggesting you break the speed limit or race another car , just a tuning run) and then do the same after they have been fitted . You'll notice they sound different to the single carb but might think that it goes harder because of the sound , only way to really know is either a dyno before and after or timed runs .

hmmm well its to late now cause they have the car but driving it this morning it roughly takes him about 5-6 seconds to get the 60km/h, and the previous dyno run i did at the tafe with that carbie on was 55hp at the wheels. so lets see how it will vary.

they might not be done today cause john wants to make sure the type N or M is right carbie for it so it could be done today or tomorrow or another couple of days

mini king rekitted them for me. depends what you want to spend aswell. mini king is pretty good wiht pricing if you dont mind leaving them there for a while and carby services in burwood on parramatta road is good as well but expensive but you would get them back fairly quick

well looks like tiny will be there for a little while. got a call today that they are having trouble with the carbies, beside them being to different carbies and hadnt been on a car for a while, they wont even work on the engine :( . they fitted the carbys and the mini started but coughed and splattered so they turned it off and check for leaks and such. went to restart and wouldnt start with and without the choke, put a hand over one of the carbies and started. so now they have taken the carbies off to see whats wrong and try different needles  :( .

LET THIS BE A LESSION TO EVERYONE, BECAREFUL WHAT YOU BUY ON THE NET AND FOR THE PRICE YOU WILL PAY FOR IT, SOMETIMES ITS JUST NOT WORTH IT.

didnt you get them refurbished, so what does it matter what you bought?

Whatever was wrong with them should have been fixed when the were refurbished??

Not necessarily. If they were a mismatched pair of SUs in the first place, there can be differences between the two carburettors which may not always be picked up during a rebuild. Like different dashpots - there are plenty of different variations of the same thing, all interchangeable. A different sized hole in the bottom can lead to one dashpot rising faster than the other. Even different type dashpot plungers can sometimes go unnoticed and cause all sorts of head scratching.

ok the carbies are in and working fine now, im picking up tiny tomorrow. the problem turned out to be the wrong needles. i asked for type M needles to be put in cause i was advised by a member to put them in to get good performance out of the engine. however this was a problem with an 1100 motor cause it floods it. therefore wouldnt run.

he wanted it over nite to see how it ran in the cold on start up, hopefully it goes well and the needles they put are the standard for twin su's dont know what they are exactly. there for 1.25" anyone know what needle will they be? and also will i loose power with standard needles?

I bought a brand new set from Downton in 2001. I have not touched them ( read tune) since I fitted them in 2001. Starts straight away. sometimes its cheaper to buy a new set then buy a set and get them redone and plus reliable

Joe , SU's aren't like other carbs , by saying they are the standard needles they mean what would have been standard tune for twin carbs on an 1100 . There aren't high performance or economy needles really for SU's , it's a matter of finding what needles work for what engine as they control the fuel air mixture throughout the air speed range . An SU is about the closest you can get to even air/fuel ratio without going to fuel injection , they are a very nice carb .

I just nipped out to the shed and whipped one of the needles out of one of the twin HS2's on my 1100 and as I thought, they're M's. And they're absolutely spot on.

Are you sure this guy has set the carbs up properly? The Doc's not often wrong, and I've got the physical evidence to back him up ;)
