Hello hello
Ive gotta look at my drivers side door lock/handle tomorrow, I tried to have a look last night but this blasted rain wont let me.
Its been playing up a bit, and from yesterday wont let me open my door from the outside now. Before I start, is there anything that commonly goes with them? Or is it a good idea to replace the whole mechanism, its a '76 clubby with lift up handles
Cheers guys

There is a little tab that holds the barrel in the same place as you turn the key. If it is bent inwards the barrel just rotates when you twist the key - so if you got it locked it won't unlock. Maybe start there first?

Ok, cool. I'll have a look, but it feels like the handle or part of the mechanism is worn, because when I took the door card off to have a look I could see the lock arm moving with the key, and wen I lift the handle it doesn't feel like its doing much, yet its fine from the inside????
hmmm

Mmmm, sorry but it is probably something else then. I must've miss interpreted your problem. Hopefully it will jump out at you and be easy to fix.

Where the little "rod" (really just a bent piece of wire) goes into the underside of the door handle, it wears out the alloy handle, even to the point of breakage. Mine is just about that point now.

Swap the exterior handle with the left hand side one
then both will be as good as new!

There are two lugs under each handle, one for LH & one for RH
Only one is used, so when you swap left -> right you are now using the previously unused lug, as good as new!

I've had the little plastic rocker linkage break where it pivots on the little rods mentioned previously.

That makey no open!! You just get a floppy outside handle.

That what I thought it would be, I adjusted the fixed arm with the two bolts in it that the plastic arm pivots on, put on two new star washes and tightened it, it works alot better now.
Cheers guys thanks for your help
