Hello all..... I feel really dumb.... I have had three attempts at installing headlights on my mini.... I have gotten really close now, but I am still not sure I have got it right yet wondering if anybody can offer any advice?

First I placed the new rubber gasket, then the two screws the the base slots into (I have not put any springs in as I have not yet figured out how or where they go - Also am concerned about the fact that I have only two slots for screws as it seems there are supposed to be three, can this be confirmed either way? as the bottom half of the base is not secured and wobbling around still)
Then I placed the headlight in and put small short screws in where the cover ring actually meets up with the base - but not into the body of the car - is this correct that the cover ring does not actually secure to the car only to the base?
Weird that something so seemingly simple can be so complex!
And even after all this, the actual headlight is wobbling around in the ring like its too small (I have bought new ones as the old ones weren't useable - stanley brand dont know the model number right now)
Is it possible that I have bought the wrong headlights or is the looseness purely due to incorrect installation?

not much to look at really in the pic but it might help! and yes its a thumbnail... click on it to see it bigger....

Thanx in advance!

Hi i don't think the looseness is due to installation, thats how i put mine on with only 2 screws and and doesn't wobble, i used the spring however, i think it holds the base to the black pod thingy, if that makes sense :?

the spring may be the key here... you got any more info about how and where to attach the spring and connect it to what and where?? It says nothing about this in the manuals I have....

Thanx

The spring connects to the pod on a bottom right tab, and the the bottom right on the base, there should be a hole for it.

Is the whole base loose or only the headlight? If the whole base is loose then its most probably the spring.

In the body there should be a couple of plastic inserts then the rubber gasket and the base screws into the plastic insertswhich go into the body. The insersts should be a white coulour and rectangular box shape with a lip at one end and have a hole at the same end.

The screws ( from memory )should have a shank on it with a channel/groove around the diameter of the screw above the thread so the headlight can be adjustable.

Oh and the headlight should be a firm fit in the outterchrome ring when fitted .....best check your old headlights for any differences.

Hmmm I will have a scout around for those plastic things - I think I know what your talkin bout.... I just had a problem with the outer ring that its tabs that the screws go into just didnt line up with any of the holes in the body not even close! so I have spent a fair amount of time turning and flipping and turning and tearing my hair out trying to figure out how the hell to attach these things therefore I came up with the theory that it only attached to itself and not the body........

And hmm about the headlights - they appear identical to the old ones.... Hope they are the right ones......
