I bought my front tow eye from the local Specialty Fasteners, much cheaper. And it has come in handy a few times. :oops:

Just don't get the ones from Bunnings used for plants and stick them on. They are not strong enough to take the weight of a Mini being pulled onto a flat-bed unless the gap is welded up. (I know, I tried it! :oops:

thanks for the help guys, i think i'll just go to bunnings or something and weld up the ring
drill the hole larger etc

hey does any one know if there is a thread about fiting tow rings (i think thats what there called) and where i can get them etc.. i did a search but not much come up, maybe im not lookin hard enough

Here's the tow rings from Minispares http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=33804. or go local http://www.minisport.com.au/prod186.htm Easy to fit. Just replace the subframe front bolts.

Thread is irrelevant. The one I used was designed to screw onto an M10 bolt with a locknut, so I had to enlarge the hole through the body/subframe slightly (they did have smaller M8s, but they were too small for my tow rope). Since you will likely be discarding the original mounting bolt and replacing it, as long as the thread of the towing eye and associated nuts/bolts is the same, it doesn't matter.

So they slipped straight in. You will need an extra nut for each eye-bolt.

I've thought about making a tow hitch for minis/mokes (not that they ever break down) as it is now illegal to use a tow rope in WA. Something like this would be collapsible to stow in the boot, and sturdy enough to tow a mini to a distant race meet: Anyone made anything like this?

A friend had similar on his clubbie several years ago except he used longer high tensile bolts on the front subframe mounts and a solid spacer to mount the A frame . The A frame had a heavy bar that the bolts mounted to , the bar was hinged so the mini and tow car could drive into deep gutters etc without trying to lift the front of the ground and it was towed from Grafton to Sydney on it several times . Has to be a clubbie or have a clubbie steering collumn though for the steering lock though it'd be safer to fit another , stronger steering lock of some form as well since I don't trust clubbie ones too much .

A piece of string tied between the handbrake & the steering wheel would be stronger than a Clubman steering lock! I don't see the need for a cross bar with two bolts in each angle at the hitch mounting plate?
