Hi Guys,
I am interested to know what valve springs, Brand , Type etc you are using with your 1.5 Ratio rockers where coil bind is an issue.
Many thanks,
Dave

Coil bind can be a SEVERE problem. I've only just repaired my new motor this week.

This happened after only a few thousand kms:

Obviously this is what you are aiming to avoid!

They have been replaced with standard "S" inners - had no problems with the outers. All 4 intake & 2 exhaust springs were broken.

This is an extreme combination of big valves, 1.5 roller rockers and a Kent MD296SC cam. Al Munday ended out pocketing the head for me to get the required clearance, as it was already running without inner spring retainers.

Now running with 20 thou tappet clearance too.

Yep. Wouldn't have even known if I hadn't gone to change the rocker cover gasket. Fortunately no major damage done.

Yepp it usually masks itself well with coil bind - at least the springs broke there. I broke 4 valve caps...without losing one collet!!

I was pissed and amazed as I drove to sydney and back with it apparently - found the bits in the sump totally intact. I was kissed by the fairies!!

I would be taking a close look at the camshaft lobes, followers, pushrods and rockers after that effort

sitnlo the other thing to remember is that there are different valve caps.
The W ones reduce the inner valve spring height further.

I did - not a sausage...not even in the cam followers!!

I went on to do another 50000km on the motor...it is in pieces on my garage bench now...

Cam was fine and is going off to GR for a regrind and the rest for another replacement motor...

I wont be using 1.5:1 rockers ever again

1.3:1 will do me nicely

It is bad news running any 1.5 rockers with stock springs, unless the cam is near stock lift.

I run an RE282 cam, with 1.58:1 MSC forged rockers, and it has .493" valve lift.
Never had a problem with MiniSpares' C-AEA526 springs, they have one less coil than most springs and are rated for this lift.
They are good for 8000 rpm. Enough for my roady 1360. 8)

ditto - also with RE282, but only standard pressed steel rockers and 7000rpm limit on my motor.
