Post subject:  Indicator canceling pin

I was flicking through my book looking for a picture of the speedo cable and noticed the steering column setup which had a canceling pin. I saw this the my mini the other day on my steering column.

its a 65 round nose with the indicator light on the end of the stick. i've tried adjusting the pin out but still didn't cancel i'm guessing one of the parts are worn. Anyone know how to repair these? Is there a changeable part, or is it not adjusted correctly?

Thank you.

Sound like it is snapped off - there should be a rectangular head on it and it screws into the shaft - in- out to adjust

There will be two prongs that hang out either side of the indicator arm.
When the arm is fitted to the column, they will contact the canceling pin as the wheel is turned back to center.

The arms commonly snap off when the pin is adjusted badly, or when the steering column top bush is worn enough to allow the pin to bounce too high and knock the canceling arm off.

Check to see if the arms are still there, it will be obvious if they have been snapped off.

If it is all there then the column may need to be adjusted up or down to hit the pin.

it looks like it may need to be adjusted down, the pin looks ok and i think i can see the pin's its supposed to hit but its sitting to low to hit.

There's a bit of play in the lower part of the column, does this usually indicate bushes?

thanks for your help.

There's a bush at the top and the bottom of the column. One is felt and the other is plastic I think...easily replaced in either case if you take the column off the car.
