Post subject: | horn...no beep |
i'm having some problems with my horn, i had a 13" smaller wheel i have since replaced the wheel with the original bus type wheel and i cannot get the horn to work. i did have it working then i had to take the wheel off again and adjust the indicator and now it doesn't work. if i change the wires back to the original and touch the wire on the inner column with the car on it seems to make a beep. So i know the horn will work, im just not sure how and why it doesn't work with the new wheel. i know it will work with the new wheel because i had it working until i had to take the wheel off again. is it some sort of grounding issue? its really bazaar....help. thank you. |

sounds like the wiring has been fiddled with to adapt to the 13" wheel and now you are replacing the original wheel, there's a problem. Are we talking early column with centre horn push or the later (short) column with stalk horn push? |

The horn switch in the middle of the steering column should ground the wire to earth. 1. Make sure that the purple wire that passes up the middle of the column will make the horn work if it strikes earth. If it doesn't, check the slip ring on the column just below the indicator arm. 2. make sure the switch on the steering wheel connects back to earth via the steering column. Probably a brass tag or similar. This completes the horn circuit to make it sound. |
