Why would changing the filter more often be a bad thing?

Does it hurt to change the oil filter every 3000 miles instead of every 6000 (ever second oil change)? |

No, it does not hurt...a lot of people say "oil is the best mechanic" meaning change it often 
[edit: although running old oil through a new filter is fairly pointless...oil is cheap!!] |

I change my oil and filter every 5000km, I don't see the point in doing one and not the other .
