I would guess that it was just an aftermarket gauge. The colour would be to match some British car from the fifties or early sixties, they often had the blue and white speedos.

Yes they were just Smiths aftermarket, the blue was popular in the `60s as magnolia is now.
I had some in my 850 back then. 8)
