hey i was looking at getting a mini ,preferably leyland, and i was wondering how much full insurance would be under my name, im only 17 so i just got my P's. Im sure there would be some people on red P's here with insurance on a mini in nsw so information would be very helpful. |

Cheapest way is get your parents to insure it in their name with you listed as alternate driver. I did that with my son thru NRMA when he was 17. Be careful with AAMI. We had his Clubbie insured with them- decided to `do the right thing' and declare it had 5x10 Contessa mags and a sports muffler! Motor was bog stock 998, btw. They cancelled him on the spot. ![]() |

mini is under dads name, Third Party insurance cost him about $470/year. im not listed as a driver, im a careful driver, and the car is only covered for $1900. i dont take the mini out that much anyway does anyone know how much CTP @ Shannons would cost and how much theyd value a mini? |

I'm with Vigil- I don't think Shannons or Vigil want to know you if you're under 25... |

I have had a 998, 1100 and 1275, and tryed out most companys with my leyland mini I believe amy is crap as u are not allowed any performance mods to your car. 3 body bods only, I hade wheels 10x5" spoiler and flares, that was it. I had to give that up because i have twin su's and extractors. I recon RACV is the best for a cheap car "ie under $5000, they have third party, fire and theft policy that is great very cheap with a mini "under $300" and are allowed 3 engine mods, unlimited body mods, I would go with RACV for a farly standard car. Other wise u want to insure with shannons. |

go racv the best for a shite mini when i say shite i mean nothing with big mods! as long as u say the main things then eg; wheels stereo and su's but dont mention if anything is not stock coz ie; new steering wheel or interior or any more engine mods coz they dont know crap from clay |

Shannons will insure drivers under 25 no probs. They don't care how many mods you have. Better off insuring for agreed value. Call Matt Brinsden on (03) 85 86 87 14. Don't talk to anyone else, he does a better price. Speaking from what I have heard, RACV is not much good as they tend to write off cars very easily. Shannons on the other hand are more for enthusiasts and try hard to always get the car back on the road. Shannons are a sponsor of MINISHOW and therefore usually do the right thing by mini owners. Good luck. |

I doubt RACV will insure you in NSW. Also it seems to be impossible to get 3rd party, fire and theft cover with anyone in Sydney. No I don't know why, I've tried for 30 years.. ![]() |

My AMII 3rd party for me on my P's was $197 it seemed the cheapest When i got mine insured none of the companies had a record of any Leyland 72 clubbies which is what i have So it got insured as a Morris but regoed as A Leyland which i don't know if is the same thing, but hopefully in the event of an unlikely accident the company will understand the situation. |

My Mini is insured third party fire and theft under Vigil - no probs. They were cheaper than Shannons by a long shot. Insurance third party property with Shannons, under my parents name with me as a driver cost $320 odd. With Vigil the Mini is insured under my name and only costs $360 for fire and theft. I believe Vigil quoted me about $160 for basic third party property insurance, under my name. I'm 19 and had/have absolutely no no-claim bonus. In both cases the car is insured as a modified vehicle - meaning I can modify it any way I like (they were happy with disc brakes, twin carbs, wide wheels exhaust and whatever). When we initially rang NRMA insurance they said NO (in capitals) - they would not insure our car no matter what. Too old apparently (even though a few years ago they changed their stance to allow older cars). Well that's my two cents. Anto. |

Well AAMI is like the Optus of the insurance world they target middle age, upper middle class, Eastern burbs and Nth shore people (in Sydney), whereas NRMA are like Telstra, they target your middle class and lower pretty much average Australians in average areas. Both are shite for classic cars and for young drivers (I know a mid level executive in AAMI who told me that they pricing policy is basicaly built to discourage older cars and younger drivers. But when I was asking them for quotes I found that you can always get a quote if you speak to the right person - coz mostly its people who dont know the difference bw 4 cyl and 4 speed and just click the prompts on the screens. Vigyl are briliant value and will ensure a car with any mods as long as you list them and any driver - but obviously they dont have the reputation of Shanons and dont give you the written off vehicle. Shanons are 20% more expensive and everyone knows their quotes are highly dependent on the individual salesmen - but if you are persistent they will admit that they do ensure P platers. A good thing about Shanons is that the ridiculous under 25 excess doesnt apply if there is an older driver listed on the policy and he was driving the car at the time. So you can cor-register with one of your parents and if there's an accident or the car is stolen you can always say they were driving last and only pay the $400 excess instead of $1000. Otherwise you can have a $2000 insurance with $1000 excess. |

I'm not talking about F****** insurance companies. I've been ripped off by the bastards too often, and I'm currently dealing with Insurance Complaints and Enquiries (Insurance Ombudsman) about a mobile phone claim Vodafone wont cover. EDIT... I am curently insured with Shannon's for 3 grand, but the excess cant be removed(what a crock) |
