hello,
i've got a round nose with the green light on the end of the indicator stalk. its a bit on the crusty side and i want to get it restored.

Has anyone taken the black part with light off the metal stalk before? does it just pull off or twist off. I can't seem to get mine to come off.

cheers.

Hi Meehal,
You are in for quite a job if you want to go through with it. The black knob is a very tight fit onto the chrome stalk and the stalk is knurled to make sure the black knob stays put. I would say there is a very good chance you will break it as you're trying to remove it.

At the other end, the chrome stalk is pressed into a die-cast base and it pivots on a rivet. This rivet will need to be removed to get the stalk from the switch and I think you'll need to make a new rivet when you come to assemble it. All in all, you're probably better to buy a new or better switch but I have managed to rebuild a few, not a simple job though.

Regards
Al

i actually got the stalk out, mine didn't appear to be secured in anyway.

but my main concern is getting the black part and light assembly off so i can either get the stalk re chromed or get another one made up.

but it won't budge and i get the feeling im going to break it...

I ended up cannibalising 3 switches and used a new black end and lens to get a new looking switch. Got the new end from Mark Forster in the UK but he doesn't seem to advertise them any more. http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.uk/

I had no luck in finding any replacement bits worth the time and effort, so I purchased a new indicator.
100% accurate recreation of the original.
Happy.
