Fiddling with the Mini and decided to fit the overhauled alternator (16ACR) took the generator off ages ago and fitted the new alternator bracket and all that is a dim past memory. Come to bolt up the alternator and the bleeding top bolt holes (bracket and water pump end) don't line up. The hole on the water pump is higher than the bracket. Are there different brackets? I see the parts manual refers to A+ and Pre-A+ mounting brackets so how do I tell which one I've got  Distance between holes is OK just horizontal line is out by about half a hole.

Is back bracket slotted?? Undo it and see..
If not I'd slot the bastard or find another bracket.

Ya slotted - horizontal  Not much meat on the bottom hole to slot but gave it a go. Got close but when I tightened it all up it moved a little. - with a small spirit level the alternator is half a bubble off horizontal and the pulley fan is half a bubble off vertical. Quick glance it looks OK but a close look and you can see that the alt pulley is not true to the water pump pulley and the belt is running across the alt pulley (ever so slightly) I imagine this would accelerate wear in time. Should I be this picky??

If belt is out of line, put a washer between the water pump and alternator. If you don't get it lined up, the belt will climb inside out, then f*** itself..
Don't ask how I know this...

Wombat,
Note you don't need to slot the holes sideways in that rear bracket- the bush in the alternator body is a `floater' and will move endwise..

I realise that but if you look at the picture of the bracket on Mini Spares the holes are horizontally sloted as new  I now have "L" shaped slots :?

It's all looking tight and snug so I'll leave as is. If they give out then I'll worry about it
