Post subject:  123ignition distributors..........

Hi all! :D
Just wondering if anyone on here is running one of these 123ignition electronic distributors http://www.123ignition.com.au/ and if so what are they like.
Also does anyone know how they compare to a MSD system?
Cheers,
Rog.

I've got a 123 in a non-Mini. It's bloody brilliant!

The car used to really ping going up hills, but now it just goes. It's been good for me.

Have a bit of a search through the forum using the search function above. There's been heaps of long threads with testimonials and alternatives over the last few years..

You will get some good comments out of them still.

Briefly, I've got a 123 in my 1152. Compared to the Lucas dizzy, it's a far smoother idle, and even with a lumpy cam the idle never decays, it's just a steady 800rpm forever. The engine is much smoother throughout the rev range, and develops lots more revs to boot -- I can hit 6,500 easily now, whereas the Lucas topped out around 5,000-5,500.

I was probably losing an easy 5HP anywhere with the old Lucas, the 123 gives me much more consistent power delivery, and does it without any sign of pinging. Highly recommended, but not cheap. Ted Cross however (the 123 importer in Australia) is a pleasure to deal with.

Have a quick search on here for 123's there is a few write ups and testimonials. There's also a write up from Pottsy in one of the Greasy Experience sections of The Mini Experience magazine. Watto might be able to help with the issue number.

Cheers
Steve

I've had one for a few months. It's still in its box but I am looking forward to getting it on the car. If you search under my threads you will find a post I put up asking about them which may answer some of your questions. The thread is titled '123 electronic ignition'. If I knew how I would put the link up here. I am still trying to work out which setting to try. Each car is different so there is no straight answer until it's on I guess. There is a choice of two types of caps. One is like a normal cap, the other has the leads outlets all pointing up so it is neater and the leads don't go forward towards the grill. I choose this type.

Thanks for all your responses guys.
I will do a search and start reading although it sounds like they are certainly worth looking into for my car as it has always lacked sadly in the low end torque department cos of the large cam.
Cheers.
Rog.

Rog, have a chat to Matt Probest (Matt68 on here) as he runs one in his Blue 68 Deluxe if you want to talk to someone in person.
