A Mini's bonnet opens up towards the front windscreen. Has anyone seen or got pics of a Mini where the bonnet opens AWAY from the windscreen?

Failing that, does anyone know any way that this is possible?

(i dont want to give too much of my plans away though)

I've thought about this for my Clubman van project :D . My idea is to have it hinge forwards and once it's open make it so it can be easily removed. The hinge would be the problem as it has to lift and move the bonnet forwards as it hinges to clear the point on the nose. It may be easier on a round nose but I haven't checked.

toughen up the front t section, then mount the engine north-south. drive to rear wheels :P

not a mini any more, but could be interesting...

and i dont know if the engine would fit n-s. then you'd have to put a tunnel in for the drive shaft. and that would suck for rear fassenger foot room. and gearbox would be a major issue

Have a look at early BMWs like E30 bonnet set up.

They open like that but slide forward a bit to give clearance at the front.

Cheers

The thing to be carefull of is making sure that the bonnet will not go through the windscreen in a frontal crash. The rear hinges do a reasonable job of controling the bonnet in most crashes.

yeah i was thinking of that soon as they suggested it. i reckon it looks pretty good.(not exactly practical in some cases though )

after pulling the bonnet catch, the bonnet goes up and forwards slightly. I've got an E28 5 series but their bonnets open the traditional way
