trying to remove my fuel tank from Jellybean and it wont come out.... its a 72' read through one of my many manuals says that early clubbys had a extra evap point or something? anyways its this big long tube beneath the tank that goes through the boot floor and nearly touches the hydro walve.... this tube thing near makes it impossible to remove the tank with out having to snap this thing off....

any ideas?

Have you removed the bolt from under the car right at the back (up in the lower rear panel). Little bastard that is.
Take the fuel cap off too.
:D

From memory you should be able to undo this off the bottom of the tank (7/16 spanner I think)? Unless its rusted on :?

That tube is for draining the tank and should screw out using an open ender....a bit of a pain to get to, but needs to be taken off to get the tank out.....

Easiest way is to just snap the tube off the plug , it's a pain in the proverbial and doesn't do much except slow the tank draining operation . The plug will still seal without the tube on it .

I ended up breaking mine off as it wouldn't budge. When I got the tank out I bogged up the hole with epoxy putty  Not the full hole just the little pipe hole into what was the tap part

Just confirming , the tube I'm talking about is on the tank's drain plug and is straight going down vertically through the boot floor . It was designed to drain the tank only through the pipe (once you loosen the tank drain plug the fuel runs through the middle of the plug and out the pipe) well clear of the boot instead of splashing inside the boot . Only problem is the plug rusts in and you can't remove it as it was designed to so you can snap the pipe off and the tank will come out with the drain plug intact .

Thats the one - figure I've never drained a tank yet and I'll work that out if I have to

Tank draining isn't hard. I just loosen the clamp on the hose under the car and pull it off.
You may get ten or twenty dollars worth of spillage by the time you aim the hose at a container, but it gets the job done.
:D

I remember trying to remove the left tank from my Gt - mega pain they get seized in. I did get it out though eventually.
