I was stunned to see a reconditioned Hydroboost VH44J brake booster for the MK II S sold today on eBay for $355 (plus shipping from Sydney).
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=005
Stunned because they sell for $255 from Hydroboost themselves.

Is there a business opportunity there?

As said it is PBR VH44(JA) as fitted to Australian produced Minis (and I presume other models) as opposed to the Lockheed servo on English build models

Gidday Dave,
Are you saying that the Trademe booster is a VH44 JA? I can't see that detail on the sticker so are you identifying it by it's appearance? Maybe my eyes aren't so good! How about the mounting stud, is that in the correct place for mk2 ?

Regards
Al

:?:
Label looks more like it says VH60E but its a bit hard to read it.
Re the mounting stud: These boosters are symetrical and the vacuum body can be rotated for various mounting orientations.
The VH60 is a larger diameter unit than the VH44 and is more likely off a larger car such as an 1800 maybe. ??? Similar size units were used on some Valiants and other larger cars.

Hi Ron,
I am aware that the can can be rotated but it doesn't look like this one has so I wondered if the mounting stud gave us a clue to the application. The label didn't look like "VH44" to me.

I was going by appearance - I've re kitted a VH44 and it looked the same - If the bigger unit looks the same then my bad  But looking at it the BMC label is to the top and the bracket to the right - if out of a Mini then you would expect the bracket to the left. (if you rotate the body then the sitcker goes upside down) Sorry I'll pull my head in and go in the corner and sulk

Tried to ask the seller a question about what was on the red sticker - had to register - so registered on Trade-me but before you can ask a question you have to be authenticated - to do that you have to deposit $10 in your 'Trademe account' to cover transaction cost (not pay for gooods) - Go and get ............

I would say its the larger VH40 unit, it's too big IMHO to be a VH44.

Is that the disc brake unit? 44 being drum brakes?

According to the Hydroboost website this one came from an Austin 1800. They say it is a more powerful than the VH44J.

From Hydroboost site-
VH 40 and VH 44 can be made up in either right or left hand configuration .How you determine the right or left is to look at the front of the booster an see whether the mounting bolts are on the right or left hand of the valve body. The photo shows a right hand mount. Also to help you determine what will fit, the VH 40 is 91/2" or 230mm in length and so is the VH44 but the VH 40 is 93/4" or 240mm in diameter whilst the VH 44 is 71/2 " or 190mm.The input and output hydraulic ports are 3/8" UNF and will accept 3/16"tube with a P4285 tube nut without adaptors. adaptors are available from HYDROBOOST to suit 1/4" tube.
