Post subject: | Australian doors? |
I need new K-series doors for my van, the ones with the lift-up handles, burstproof locks, external hinges. There's some 'Australian' doors for sale at the moment which have the earlier Mk I style handles and apparently the older "house door" style of latch. Will these fit and how easy is it to change the latch? I have a pair of doors that came off the van so I can nick the latches etc, but the skins are well rooted. These are the doors for sale: ![]() The alternative is sourcing some doors from Australia, but these are local. I know you can get K doors reasonably easily in Aus - any idea of a fair price? The freight might not be too expensive. If I can't source the doors, the whole project is pretty much dead in the water. Thanks. |

No the early ones won't fit without major surgery to the B pillars. Someone in NZ had a pair of NEW ones like yours for sale, it was posted on MM message forum a week or 2 ago. Do a search on http://www.minimania.com/msgthreads.cfm ![]() |

Angus, you just want aussie clubman doors - as you describe, lift-up handles and burst-proof locks - dime-a-dozen, how many do you want? you find me a cheap ute shell, freight it over, and I'll send you the same value in doors, deal? |

If you come get them, i've got 2 Clubman (what you are calling K series) you can have, hehe. That's how much they are worth. Keep an eye out on the Australian Ebay. |

nobody would bother putting them on ebay cos they're not worth anything - Angus, I'm sure any of us on here could get you a good condition set of doors for $100.... there are occasionally whole clubmans on ebay, one was went unsold a few weeks back - maybe we should start an ausmini wrecking yard and all put in to cover costs of donor cars.... |

i don't find the clubman doors to be better or burstproof at all except when you're hinges are worn its easier to pull the door up when you dont have to push the handle down. |

When I said 'burstproof', I was referring to the latches being normal car-style ones which don't (in theory) pop open in an accident. The old Mk I house-door-style ones were slated to open whenever the shell twisted etc, flinging the occupants into the street. I was told that K series was a Brit factory reference to Kangaroo, in other words Australian only spec. The doors are rare enough here to be a pain, but if they're common in Aus I won't worry too much. I'd better crack on with the repairs to my Clubman saloon first, to keep the wife happy. |

The late model round nose Mini's here were known as a Mini K. They had the Cooper S style grill, a round badge and 1100 engines. They have stickers just behind the front wheels with "Mini K" on it. Just before they changed to Clubmans here, they changed the doors. There aren't very many Mini K's that had the Clubman doors, it was late 71 or something? |

They were also used on the last of the Cooper S in `71. Common garden variety Oz Clubby door, as said. Dime a dozen. Unlike Mk1 sliders..! |

While we are on the topic of doors, the lock and latch on Mo is busted. Doesnt matter which way or how you turn the key, it wont lock. Its the internal spring thing that has come unlatched. The local auto locksmith had no idea and couldnt help (so much for being an automotive locksmith ![]() Does anyone know where I can get this fixed..? I have checked schematic pics and had a look myself, but I cant get in there to check it. Does the skin have to come off to get access..??? |
