Post subject:  Can't blow my horn

I have 4 horns out of Minis/BMC cars. When I put a battery across the terminals I get nothing - except one makes a pop sound as though it's trying. Am I right in assuming they should work connected straight on a battery?

Yes they should.

If they are original BMC horns I think (??) they usually have an adjuster screw of sorts - maybe adjust it and see if it makes a difference.

I agree with Anto, David

Sometimes they just old and freeze. Try giving them a bit of a tap.

Then try reversing the polarity. It shouldn't make any difference but sometimes it does. I don't know why.

The horns in situ have positive power in all the time and blow when the negative goes to ground.

I've found a couple of sharp hits with a rubber mallet on the horn body to loosen things up can revive an old horn . I think a bit of corrosion can stick things together inside and earth the system .

Theres a screw on the back near the big one, loosen it until you cant hear the horn then screw it a quarter of a turn.

Give it a tap.
Turn the big screw in and out a bit to free it up.
Fine tune with the little screw.

They work fantastic after a tune. :D
