Post subject:  Help with air and fuel mixture please?

Hi there,

Just want to fine tune my Mini. Is misfire occasionally when I am driving. Just want to know where do I adjust the air and fuel mixture? How much do I need to adjust? Is a 1275 A+ auto with a single 1.5" carbby. Thanks in advance.

The misfire could be caused by other things, what makes you think it is the mixture? What colour are the plugs?

Misfire could be timing, poor spark, no spark, not enough oil in the car, too much oil in the carb, etc etc

Before changing the mixture do you know that it is the prob?

The following parts has been replaced: 4 new spark plugs, new contact breaker point, new condenser, new lead, new dissy cap and new coil. Still misfire a bit but not as bad. fuel pump is good. What else can it be wrong?

When you change the points, you need to to make sure that the gap is set correctly. The same goes for the plugs, they must also be gapped properly. When you change the points you also need to re-do the timing, using a timing light.

Also check your dashpot oil, this is a common cause for misfire.

The gap for the point and spark plugs are correctly set. Just want to know you were saying the dash pot might have too much oil, if so how much oil should it be in the dash pot and if is too much how do I remove the excessive oil? The misfire only happens when the car is fully warmed up.

I reakon its a timing issue if its worse once it warms up.get a timing light and check it before you spend any more money.

I agree, check the timing first before playing with mixture. If there is to much oil in the dashpot you could try using a syringe to get it out (this is how i have always done it, not sure if it is the best way).

When you changed all the leads etc did you change one part at a time and then test, or did you just put all new stuff in? The reason I say this is because the new parts you put in may have a fault in them(just because they are new doesnt mean they are good). By changing one part at a time you can systematically work out what part was at fault, and then you also know which parts are still good for spares and which need to be binned.
