Post subject:  Named my car and other questions.
Well I dont normally name my cars, though I do like to call Commodores "Hemaroid" because nearly every ass hole has one, but I digress. I have decided to Christen my car FINGERS Bacsaue everytime I fix something on it I always find at least one nut / bolt done up only finger tight.

I had a clunking noise from the right rear wheel, got under it and the nut that holds the shock onto the back of the rear hub had almost screwed its self off. Add it to the long list.

QUESTION.

While I had the rear wheels off I pulled the rear drums off to check stuff because I dont think my rear brakes are working too weel. I droped one of the drums and ened up with a face full of brake dust - DANGEROUS?

depends on the age of the linings asbestos is now band substance (sounds like a drug) and a few manufacturor's have not been useing asbestos for a while and shops were supoused to frow away all [pads with asbestos ............ blah blah blah
but yeah possible did ya suck in a lung full ?

Lots of bake dust means the brakes have been working.
thats normally good. but check the shoes are on the right way round otherwise they will wear out prematurely and not as efficient. remember self energising laws

if you mean with reference to the health aspects, having recently had an issue with a some major internal bleeding, coughing up copious blood. aspestosis was one of the things they looked at... as it turned out i am in good health, only an infection in the back of the throat that caused a blood vessel to rupture.. anyways according to my doctor the aspestos thing is a bit of a media beat up, and probably everyone of us over 20 and some younger,has been exposed to aspestos at some stage. ( i can recall sawing sherikans [ kung fu throwing stars]) out of it by hand. apparently the bad stuff is the blue aspestos from perth which is predominantly in building products. brakes, while probably not a good thing to sniff intentionally, are not made from blue aspestos so im told.

First thing I do when I take a drum off is hose it and the backplate to get rid of the dust.
I learned that working on old Beetles.. the big drums held heaps of dust! :lol:

I pulled the brake drum off and as I went to flip it over to put on the ground and droped it and brake dust went everywhere.

if you think about it, if there was much of a risk from old brakes then there would be no old mechanics about.. b4 the big asbestos scare no one gave a crap about dust .
like i said b4 i wouldnt go around intentionaly inhaling anything on purpose, but a lot of old mechanics would have inhaled plenty
