After yesterday, I'm starting to believe that this isn't my imagination any more. For some reason, people hate being behind my mini. (No it's not emitting clouds of thick smoke).

Driving home yesterday on Parramatta road, doing slightly over the limit in the right lane (three laned stretch). I was 50-100 metres ahead of the pack from the last lights (like to give it a bit). Some idiot in a falcon comes up behind me, changes to the middle lane. I look at the speedo, not really going slow, but contemplate moving over to the left anyway. Falcon undertakes me, moves a head a couple of car lengths, then changes back into my lane! And proceeds to continue at about the same speed. Then we come to a stop at a red light. WTF.

Anybody else get this behaviour? Shits me off..

Yup. So I tried not letting them overtake me. A falcon? Not a chance. 8) lol

Maybe you should keep out of the right hand lane unless you are overtaking or turning right?

It's normal unfortunately , moronic people have the mindset that any old car is slow and has to be overtaken . People used to crap me in the moke going hell for leather to get in front of me at the lights or out of intersections and then go slower than I was . Their expressions were priceless when I overtook , they just couldn't comprehend that a "slow vehicle" like that could accelerate like that .

It's the same with 4wd utes too , they must be slow so need to be overtaken at all costs . When I bought my Triton the speedo was reading 16 klm's slower than the actual speed so I was inadvertantly driving on the highway at 116 kph (or more  ) and even have the bit of paper from mr policeman to prove it .... It didn't matter what I was doing though , car's HAD to overtake me as I HAD to be a slow vehicle (cruising at an indicated 110 , actual 126 and they'd limp past with the engine screaming just so they weren't caught behind a "slow 4wd" ....).

I have had the same thing... doesnt bother me, I enjoy driving my car so when people go around me im fine with it.

In traffic I think I feel the same as you though, people almost try to get around you as if you are a bus or truck and they think 'oh, dont want to get stuck behind him'

Having said that, the above is negated because I get SO many people scream up behind me, come up next to me and smile or wave because its a 'cute little mini' so its all good ;)

Peter.

Yep I get it alot, I am waiting for someone to get booked when they do it as I do a bit over the limit and others would have to quite a bit more to stay ahead of me.

Why let it bother you? just move over to the left & let them go on their way.

We also get this in my wife's Cooper S with a lounge room built around it (1100S). Its a fairly quick little car and given our rural roads we can drive it with some spirit.

We easily pass many white knuckle drivers in front of us only to see their cars with the nose up in the air to catch and pass us just to prove their point.
Its also fun to tuck the beast into a corner with the catching car suddenly finding himself (its always a "himself") out of his depth in the corner.

Like my mini, the 1100S pretty well keeps up to most standard modern cars to about 130kph and then their sheer torque and stupidity lets them catch, pass and roar away.

I have had that with every small car I have had. Even more so with the Moke

I especially like it when people tail gate you on a road with lots of roundabouts - I make sure I am below the speedlimit (just enough not to be dangerous) and keep that speed on the straights and the roundabouts - really annoys them especially as I disappear through the roundabouts and then thye fly to catch me on the straights :P

It doesn't worry me when people do it, but I am amused that people have to prove that their car can go faster.

I went out to Warwick a few days ago - sitting a little higher than the speed limit, but some dude in a new 4WD went screaming past me and some other people and then slowed down to the pace we were going

I really hate that, if they are going to pass, go past, but don't slow down once you get in front

i love overtaking people. Its heaps of fun. Giving your car a flogging on the highway to give it enought oomph to get past them and them just staring at you. like "what hows he doing that, thats not right". I love it

But yeah i do agree people overtake you because they think old = slow
