Post subject: | Help with Syncro's while assembling Gearbox |
i am starting to assemble my gearbox i seperated the syncros inner and outer pieces and had the 3 springs and ball bearings out. I know the which way the outer bit of the syncro goes (e.g. the bit that goes into selector forks) but the inner piece which holds the springs and ball bearings seems to have a smaller ridge on one side and a bigger ridge on the other. I am not sure which way this goes mainly on the 3rd/4th gear (the one with teeth closer to speedo bit) the 1st/2nd syncro with the smooth outer ridge. that inner piece looks like it can only go one way (thats with the bigger ridge towards the flywheel) look at pic to make sense. Does anyone know which way it goes the mini manual is not very clear on this bit ![]() also got the gearbox aquablasted came up a treat ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Firstly I think you are referring to the synchro hubs incorrectly, 1st/2nd is the one with the teeth on the outer ring (for reverse) while 3rd/4th has the smooth outer. Now, for each of these the larger inner ridge as you call it faces the same way as the larger offset on the outer ring. For example, the larger inner ridge for 3rd/4th hub faces the flywheel, while the larger inner ridge for 1st/2nd hub faces the diff pinion or speedo drive end. Have a look and you will figure it out. Gearbox case looks great. Another thing to check is if using a central oil pickup is that the reverse gear selector lever in the bottom of the box clears the oil pickup gauze. Do a dummy assemble to make sure it all clears. This is a problem on remote change boxes. |

so according to my picture 3rd/4th with smooth outer ring the 2nd pic down on the left side is correct (and the pic underneath with it on the motion shaft) the 1st /2nd with teeth on the outer top pic on the right is correct does that sound right, it makes sense to me especially with the 3rd/4th cause when that goes on the other way it would not engage properly |
