For those who were interested in what the BMC Rosette looked like. I've taken a few pics of the February-March 1965 issue which featured the release of the Mini Deluxe.

The Rosette was a bi-monthly newspaper distributed to the staff of BMC nationwide.

They really are a great read - stories on Mini racing nationally and internationally, events and staff around the Zetland plant, new model releases (Mini Deluxe, Austin 1800 etc). They aslo covered all of BMC vehicles including all the heavy industry stuff.

Here's what I said on the other thread.

I'm not boasting, but I've got 22 issues, and they are invaluable for my research. I regularly quote from them and have snippets from them in The Mini Experience.

The first issue was June 1963 (which I only have digital scans of). They were sometimes dated with a month, and other times covered two months - a little inconsistent. One issue I have actually cover three months.

The Rosette was replaced by a new Leyland paper, called Leyland City Times in January 1973 (though apparently only two issues - the second in June) but I don't know if the Rosette actually continued that late - particularly as the company was taken over by Leyland in 1971 (well they were taken over earlier, but the name changed to Leyland in 1971).

The latest issue I have is from May-June 1968. Given that's 60 months, if they averaged bi-monthly, then that's 30 issues. Hey, only 16 more issues for us and TME will be bigger than the BMC Rosette!

That last issue covers the Tortoise and the Hair expodition, when Evan Green and Jack Murray in a Morris 1100S raced a Cessna light plane around Australia.

I go through them so often, and they are in pretty tatty condition (so I have to be very careful) that they are not in any date order - more in order of interesting stories.

That guy with the 850 I have been trying to track down for quite some time, but without success - so far. However, I have tracked down another chap who drove a Mini van right around australia in the ealry 1960s, and he and his brother are still into Minis. That will make a great story later on!

Cheers,
Watto.

Thanks for showing us that Julie made my mouth water 8)

Watto is there any chance you would be willing to share any digital scans of the one's you have?

Cheers.

For the moment I have been sharing bits and pieces through The Mini Experience, but not full pages (other than in small photos to illustrate certain stories).

Over time, I am sure I will eventually get them all digitised, and then can do something with them.

Issue 17 of TME will have a fair bit of info from the Rosette, as I will be looking at the Morris 1100, and there is a stack of info and some great pics in the February 1964 issue. In fact, while most issues were only available to factory workers the dealerships, etc, the Feb 64 issue was included as a suppliment with the Sydney Daily Telegraph. I bet that was a costly excercise, even back then, given that it is 32 pages.

At the very least, I should go through them all and sort them into date order and see just how many I am actually missing.

Cheers,
Watto.

Wow how good is that. I can only read the headlines - but still, its great.

Seems something survived from BMC(A) even if car production records didnt.
Thanks for posting. Would be great to get copies or scans of the magazines that relate to my 65 Deluxe.
Will check if state Library etc have any listings for the publication.
